Wayne W. Dyer, a best-selling author and self-help guru, died on Maui on Saturday night at age 75, according to a post on his Facebook page and NBC News.
“Wayne has left his body, passing away through the night. He always said he couldn’t wait for this next adventure to begin and had no fear of dying. Our hearts are broken, but we smile to think of how much our scurvy elephant will enjoy the other side. We Love You Forever Dad/Wayne. The Dyer Family,” read a post on the “Dr. Wayne W. Dyer” Facebook page.
His death was also announced on the Facebook page of his publisher, Hay House Inc. A request for comment from Hay House President and CEO Reid Tracy went unanswered Sunday afternoon.
Dyer was a part-time Kaanapali resident. The cause of his death wasn’t immediately reported, but he had been diagnosed with leukemia several years ago, according to USA Today.
Dyer first catapulted into the national spotlight with the publication of his book “Your Erroneous Zones” in 1976.
His message evolved from a counseling perspective to include the recognition of a divine mind, or God, but the central message remained the same – don’t live someone else’s idea of what your life should be, according to an article published in The Maui News on March 16, 2014.
“Trust in what inspires you inside. The highest place is in yourself,” Dyer said at the time.
Dyer’s divine-self message was intertwined with what he described as the mind/body connection.
“Keep your health as much as you possibly can and make up your own mind,” he told The Maui News last year.
